In the pic u see the front left wheel, looked from above,in the rest position (black)and at full steering(white)...as u can see the 7.50r16 gets even less close to the b-pillar than the 215/85R16..even if at rest position the 7.50 is way closer than the 215/85r16...

PS: sorry for my crap english...it's kinda hard to try and explain stuff like that

could you add a 225/75r16 in your drawing? those are my current tires and would like to compare them to your option :D

those skinny tires would make good play-tires on our muddy local playgrounds

How much can you get a set of those for then Rob?

I found new ones (recent production 2013) for 185 euros each. At a military surplus store I can also get new ones but older production date for 150 euros each. He also has really good used ones 125 and up.

I really like the (narrow) look of those tyres and on my 16" it should fit as well. What worries me a bit is my gearing. Because the tyre is much larger than 225-75-15 my 4th gear might be a bit long for it (0.69 4th gear with 5.83 R&P). The AFN will push it without problem, just worried about the extra strain on the gearbox.

My situation is this one:
1z mechanical pump (no ic yet) 6.03 G - 3.78 1st - 1.88 2nd - 1.09 3rd - 0.70 4th 6.17 FD and with the michelin 7.50 it's close to the limit for some uphill on highways....when i had 215/85r16 everything was just perfect, but i think my mtdi needs a little bit of extra power that u probably have with ur electronic AFN :D

AFN with mechanical pump (11mm pumphead) and watercooled intercooler. All electronics in a box in the garage..best place for it..for now.

Adding an intercooler will most likely bring the extra power you need in 4th gear. I would not run a tdi without it.

That's what I'm interested in knowing.

Most of what I've seen written says that a 215/70 R16 or equivalent is the largest that would fit, but given what's been written on this thread I'm wondering whether taller but narrower sections might also be possible.

Ideally I'd like to be able to fit 205R16, due to the off-road tyre choice in this size, but I'm aware that may be wishful thinking.

When I got my Syncro last year it had 205/80 R16 tyres on and it was fitted with standard suspension. Did not seem to catch on the body when taking it off road although that was nothing extreme just checking the cows in the fields on a friends farm.
Found that on hills the 1.6JX suffered with the gearing but it was ok on level ground. I have since changed to 215/75 R15 BFG AT with a 40mm suspension lift -(working on the beard).
We use Landrovers at work and the best tyre that we use is the Goodyear MTR its a pity you cannot get it in a 15"

Do you work for Western Power by any chance?

As for tyres on a 14". I was running 235/70/16 all terrains on an unmodified 14" shell. Approx 30mm lift, Merc ML rims and 20mm wheel spacers. No rubbing or catching.

Here is front outrigger moved back, if you go to big on tyres they catch on the depth of the outrigger and on the return.

235/85/16 INSAs. These are quite a bit bigger than BFGs in same size

Stretched rear arches to accomodate the bad boys! :D Unfortunately the Syncro Specialist who made the arms didnt do a dry run and build them up off the van. Trailing arms have got to be reworked slightly where the front inner side of the tyre is near outer bush as it touched ever so slightly. Not to much work but annoying nether the less for the owner

Leading edge of front arch has to be relieved ever so slightly but not major surgery. Just inner edge needs to be rolled slightly.

Hey Elvis, how come your pictures are no longer available? Could you please post them again? thank you :)

No problem Al...I was trying to find some other pictures that I had in my HD but I probably lost.
Super keen for the shots by the way ;)
