not joking, I was guessing this is for your daughter rather than a jacked up beetle as originally planned

Beetles are just too rotten, I'd like an early one but don't think it'll happen. Daughter would love the country, depends if I keep it that long :D
It is a lovely car to drive, probably the best I've owned. Funnily enough me and the Mrs was chatting about restoring the bodywork last night, basically she said put the money into the bodywork on the van as that has to last forever.. lots of poor work to have redone on it, but who to trust.

Interesting underbody shot there, its pretty well a monocoque body on top of a ladder chassis.
As for who to trust for bodywork, you need to go further north than Holmfirth. Quite a lot further in fact ;)

I did something like that before and didn't see the van for near a year. I would travel, but somewhere local would be preferable

a lot of the golf panels are available from VW-Classicparts, there must be a Golf2 specialist body place or two somewhere to service the race and rally boys
We've got a new guy 2 doors down does Mk2 Escort shells for the rally boys, his work looks nice and he's not too expensive

the golf will likely get the minimal done, front jacking points and sill ends. other than that its not too bad. the odd blister here and there. I've learnt a lot from so called full resto's. as in best not too if you can avoid it.
Its the van that needs attention, cab step rotted through in a small area where it looks like new metal has been put over rot, lower front panel behind bumper all bubbly, windscreen surround looks a bit suspect, seams, ect.

But, the important thing is its solid in the right areas and mechanically its A1 and carries us europe wide with no fuss.

Full resto is a phrase that people use on here and fb all the time, I've yet to see a full resto done on a t3 yet, even I wasn't prepared to go that far with mine.
All the panel work on you're van looked very nicely done it was just the next part of the process that let it down before it was painted.

yours is bloody lovely. Yes the ball was dropped with mine in a few respects. Shame as vans before and after are still looking good. Anyway, things move on and i do need to sort some bits on mine. purely cosmetic, but the wife says it has to last forever and i kinda feel the same too.

For the money that's spent on them they should last forever!
