Shall we do the math. How much is a mint one worth for starters?

Build Cost estimated:

Bodywork = £7k
Gearbox & Engine rebuild = £3k
Suspension, brakes = £2k
Exhaust, cooling, wiring £1k
Accessories, trim etc = £1
MOT, TAX, INSURANCE, TYRES = £1k
Purchase Price & Courier = £2k

So, you’re into it for at least £17k

Only the brave!

Nice honest advert, needs to be with eBay otherwise you’re within your rights not to pay.

A supplied rebuilt Syncro gearbox is more like £4k on it's own, the crown and pinion, mainshaft and 6 gears are over £3k new alone, so even if I have the parts to build one from mainly used parts it wouldn't be cheap. A rebuilt one from VW Classicparts is Euro4.5k exchange and they don't have many variants available.

FYI the box from this one came to me, I paid for the collection from CoastVW and stripped and cleaned the internals and it was completely f'd. I had the case work done ready for the rebuild once it was clean but the customer went cold, didn't reply to emails, and didn't pay deposit, so after 18 months I disposed of what was of any value to get my money, which I am legally entitled to do. Hence it has no box now.

The front diff and VC rebuild could be £2k too

I always wondered what happened to the van, now we know

Any engine rebuild worth talking about will be more than £3k too...

There are two other RHD Syncros on Ebay at the moment as well, though they are a bit more pricey. Seems to be a bit of a glut of them at the moment. Is it winter drawing in? Brexit worries?

Lower your sights to a 2WD? Needs finishing but a nice high spec Velle.

There are a lot of people "getting out" as well as the pirennial/seasonal sell-up. There will be more in the new year, its been a buyer's market for a little while now.

I'm beginning to think it might be much harder to own an 'older' vehicle, and live in a city, in the near future.

Buyers market?
A couple of syncros!
I was looking for a couple of years before mine came along,
not a lot of choice.. if you want RHD.

Agree about the costs being higher than before,
the value rises but so do the expenses.

If you want one tho,
going to have to pay the price!
Nothing else will do.

Though that 2wd does look nice and it is near me so...
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Two syncros must be enough!

Update of eBay...
"have now contacted Aidan Talbot about the gearbox, I am going to try and recover it so the van is complete, If successful i will include the gearbox with the van to the winning bidder. I lost contact with Aidan 4 years ago and he still has the box, so will be in touch with winning bidder regarding this. "
