Any 16" alloys that will bolt straight on....No faffing?

I've got 14" alloys! I'm wanting some 16"!!

but it's a 14" van and despite what your missus tells you another 2" won't make any difference

I'm not so sure, from your point of view, a 100% increase would make quite a difference!


I know its just a personal opinion, but I like the look of 16/17" alloys with lower profile tyres on a syncro.....just needs a bigger/better engine to go with it..........

Yes, wheels & tyres can make a huge difference to the way a vehicle drives. And the wrong wheels/tyres can vary from taking the edge off the joy of driving to being 'bloody' scary!!
I speak from my experience with Baja & buggys, buses & bikes from my 'young & dumb' days.
A simple thing like the tyre pressure can totally alter the way a vehicle feels/preforms.
I hope the 'new' owners are aware of these facts or were they still in their 'young & dumb' days?

well said karl all of the things above all make a big difference to the way car and vans drive. Also the profile of tyres make a huge difference along with remolds etc.

I guess that there will be some faffing if you want your 16's on.

having owned and driven a 14" Tristar with 16" alloys and low pro tyres on I found it was foul by comparison with the standard set up generally and in particular tended to tramline in the nearside lane on the motorway which was a pain, iirc 235 60?65 16, ok the tyres themselves might not have been much but the whole set up didn't work for me. Vehicle came to me with them on and I sold 6 months later with them on and subsequent owner soon got rid for some 15" alloys and ATs.

look nice stood still or drive nice, I know which I'd prefer, same with 205/70/14s on a 2wd T3 nasty by comparison with full aspect ratio standard tyres, again just mho

I hear what you're saying Aid. Lower profile will give a firmer ride & over wide tyres do tend to track. I've had two buses with 17/18" Porsche alloys, as you say looked very cool when parked & okay on excellent flat surfaces but any road camber & you really had to concentrate, hence spoiling the drive. Add to that the price of a 18" X 10" low-profile tyre is why I was a after a correct spec(ish) 16" alloy, no wider than say 6.5"/7". And at the Granada prices it may be worth a go.
What do you reckon the weight of a Granada?

with some spacers merc ml 16" with 215 70 16 do very nicely even able to use the same wheel nuts which saves a few quid..................

So... let me get this right. If we move away from standard wheel/tyre combos to say 8x16 with 235/60/16 we will induce poor ride, tramlining etc. And we wont get odd effects if we fit 235/75/15 MT's????? I ran 8x16 with 235/60/16 on my last 2WD van and Id none of those issues. Ride quality in a Syncro? Where?

I'm running 8Jx16"Et11 on my Syncro with a 5mm spacer at the rear.

These are on Bronco Grizzly MT 235/70R16 tyres and I have NO tramlining/adverse handling - just some bobbly tyre noise.

I think there is an element of anal thinking with regard to what is right and what is wrong on these vans.

I've also done the other extreme of 10Jx18"Et37 with 225/40VR18 Avons and the ride on that was sublime to say the least. This was on a 100mm lowered Caravelle.

By comparison our stock Westy briefly ran ML's and was horrid to say the least. Every corner/turn seemed like a disaster waiting to happen.

That said I dislike the use of spacers stacked to make up good offset. I think that's far more problematic than running a 'different' offset rim.

Some fair points there PoshB, but to be honest, if you think that those Grizzly things on ET6 wheels have 'no adverse effect' on handling/ride. You are probably not the best person for SPaddy to throw his full support behind!!
Although have you ever read the handling or ride quality reports on a Delorean?

I had wheel arch fouling problems on my 14" when I had the Mercedes 16x8 wheels on. My van is lifted about 40mm (I think). The other problem with a 8" wide rim is that your choice of off road tyres is limited. Some of the ones I looked at would only go on a rim up to 7.5" wide. The Hankook Dynapros I bought being one of them. When on the Mercedes rims I had vibration problems (like a wheel balance problem). Had them back being balanced 3 times with no joy. The Zcw Force shadow wheels I went to are 6.5" and once on eliminated the fouling and vibration problems. I wish I had got them before trimming my front arches.
