Battery warning light wiring

Post by diesel11 »

Hey all, hope you're all staying safe,my battery warning light doesn't come on at all, although the battery is charging 14.2 volts, I've checked for continuity from the blue wire and I've not got any too the dash plug, I've traced the wire to the multi plug behind the dash and for some reason the blue wire goes into the black and blue wire? I've got continuity to the blue wire up to the plug, any suggestions as to why? And is this something any of you have come across before?Image

Battery warning light wiring

The wire from the alternator should connect to pin13 on your dash cluster ,

assuming your van is the one described in your signature.

Hi yeah that's the wire I've been testing it to, but I don't have any continuity to that pin, if I swap the blue wire so as it connects to the blue wire at the plug ( as I assume it should be) I get continuity up to the plug but still no warning light? It's a "bog" basic dash Speedo and fuel gauge no clocks or temp gauge, I know from reading the wiki pages that the PCBs are common but just seems strange that the two wires have been swamped possibly?

You need to be clear on what colour wires you are talking about - I can't see a black/blue but can see a blue/black. It helps when looking at wiring diagrams.

Just a quick update, I've swapped the two wires at the joint, so as the blue, blue/black wires now match, tested continuity to the relevant terminals at the main dash plug ( all good ) so I now have a battery warning light, which is operating correctly, but now the oil pressure light is inoperative, removed the oil pressure switch and replaced with a new one, ta dah I now have two warning lights working as they should, I can only assume that for some reason, someone has had an issue with the oil pressure light and rather than fix the issues has "bodged" the loom to take the light out, needless to say all sorted

Thanks for bothering to come back and update and add the conclusion , so many come here, tell the troubles , get the advice but never come back to say if it was or wasn’t successful.
Thank you .

No problems at all, all the help and advice is greatfully received, you never know when someone else may encounter similar problems, keep up the good work and help to keep the vans on the road
