House wiring is different to vehicle wiring. House brown is positive, vehicle brown is negative, house black is negative, vehicle black is positive - especially German wiring.
Someone has used the wrong colour wiring in the past.
Needs rewiring correctly from scratch.

Brown wires are ground of Vw's. Must have been wired to BS AU7 standard where brown is a direct live feed. Cause a *** confusion- Mongrels language. Run new Red wire alongside. The relay was available from Aes, Automotive Electrical Supplies and the website has the connection details.
