will a late clockset fit an 86?

Post by sonic23 »

Hi there,
I'm looking to replace the complete clockset on my 86 Syncro, I have an opportunity to by a later one. Both are horizontal pluig and have the same instuments (mph speedo and analogue clock). I've been told the later have the oil buzzer, but potentially not mine as it's a changeover. Regardless - could i still fit the later clockset even if i didn't have the oil buzzer?
cheers,
Rich

The oil buzzer circuit also controls the oil pressure warning LED function so a fairly straightforward modification will be needed to have it working without the DOPS PCB.

I will post a picture later to show you what is needed.

The later dash has a socket for the DOPS pcb. I am assuming your replacement dash does not have the DOPS PCB or it does but your engine does not have the second oil pressure switch needed for it to function correctly, in which case you will need to add a resistor into the DOPS socket as shown for the oil pressure LED to function, values between 1K and 2.2K will be fine. Alternatively, replace the Oil LED with a 12v 5mm Red flashing type and just use a wire link instead of a resistor.

Rich if your van has the CE2 fuseboard, the big one with relays on the front and the plastic blade fuses then your van is 'late' and the dash will be fine
