Temporay stop to buzzer of death

Hi,
I just had my 1982 1.9 Petrol Hightop T25 in for it's MOT and it needed some work to the wiring. Since it had this work the buzzer of death oil sense is always buzzing. The mechanics at the garage said there is absolutely nothing wrong with the oil pressure (they tested it for me) and it needs the Dash removing and the wiring sorting out; they took the dash off to fix something and said it is a bit of a mess, so will need sorting..

Is there a way to stop the buzzer of death just for a short while as I have a journey to make and the noise is driving me crazy.
I read that one of the terminals on the oil sensor can be earthed and this will stop it buzzing.

Where is the oil sensor on my van?

Does anyone have a photo of the engine bay and where the sensor is?

Your 1982 van should not have buzzer of doom so it must have had a later dash fitted which is why there's a buzzer of doom and your engine may not have the switch for the high pressure oil pressure and your van may not have the wiring for it so at the dash end take a look at the 14 pin connection on the plastic circuit board edge connector the connections are labelled, you want to connect the high pressure oil connection to earth, pin 13

If you are OK without having the oil pressure led working for a short while, you could remove the small 6 way ribbon connector from the rear of the speedo housing. Just pull it gently, this will disconnect the 'buzzer of doom' circuit board and can be done with the dash in place and just the cover removed. There is a thread that details a simple mod to that connector which will allow the Oil pressure led to work as normal but disables the buzzer of doom. Ideal for anyone with an early van but later dash board.

Isn't it just easier to remove the RPM signal (green wire) from the connector.

Mine was cut on my van when I bought it for this very reason

I doubt an 82 has the bright green wire
my 85 didn't till I added it.

You are probably correct, I'm just struggling to understand how an early van with a late dash can have the DOPS buzzer without all the gubbins, RPM wire, "relay 42" etc

I fitted a later housing with a tacho and had to remove the dops from mine
As i retained my original speedo

The usual process for fitting a late dash into a early van is to reassign the multi way connections to suit the later dash. The problem is that early vans will not have the rpm or the second oil pressure switch wires as these are missing. The DOPs is best removed and a simple mod to the DOPs 6 pin connector can be carried out so that the oil pressure LED functions. That is the only thing that needs to be done for a later dash without the tacho to work on a early water cooled van.

Not certain about this, it was a long time ago! but when I fitted the later dash to my 1984 van I think I just changed the wires on the connector at the back and then earthed the connection (12 or 13?) that should go to the oil pressure sensor on the BACK of the engine. This sensor I believe is open at rest and earths when up to pressure. If you earth the connection it fools the dash into thinking the sensor is working correctly.
