Fit new Sport-Comp AM3316 Fuel gauge help please

Post by mgbman »

We want to fit a new separate fuel gauge on my son's T25 Aircooled.

Its the same one as on my T2 Bay, Sport-Comp Auto Meter AM3316 which I understand has a compatible ohm range with the JK VDO tank sender, 33 full 240 empty.

We would like help with the wiring between the sender and the new gauge and as the sender earth wire near the tank is very crusty, can we just replace with a new earth.

In case you ask, my son doesn't want to touch the original ribbon under the dash or the connector block, just leave the old gauge and fit new. If we can't reuse the old sender wiring, can we get a replacement sender connector?

I wondered if it was just a sales ploy. I thought that as long as the ohm range on the sender matched that of the gauge then any gauge would do.
