Oil pressure sensor colours?

Post by bruce3927 »

Hi all
I have a 1.9DG which I have just spent a fortune on a full engine rebuild.
Since then I have the buzzer of doom and no oil light, he tested the engine and it does have oil pressure.

My question is what colours should the sensors be?

I have white in the low sensor (LH between pushrods) and blue in the high ( behind the pulleys).
A quick look at the Brickwerks site tells me white is 1.8 bar and normally open, blue is 0.25 bar and normally closed!

Have I found my problem???

and blue goes to blue/black wire in loom, grey goes to yellow wire in loom.

You should have a grey switch 0.9bar

Thought so!
Thanks itchy feet!
That will be the answer to my lack of light and the BOD coming on?

The BOD is one of the most stressful noises known to man, a screaming child is nothing compared to BOD!

By having the 1.8 bar white switch the BOD will come on very early / all the time?
Just curious as I now have a grey switch on order from brickwerks.

yes a 1.8 bar switch may trigger after a long hot run

it's your choice.

Personally I'd fit a gauge rater than a switch that will just worry you.

recently my BOD went off, a quick look at the gauge and I knew it was a wire fault.

I must admit I am leaning towards fitting a gauge in the near future anyway.
Just shows, it's worth checking the obvious first! I have replaced the dash PCB and both lengths of wire from the sensors and lost a fair bit of sleep over this!!!

Good write up here

https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/brickwerks ... -switches/

The answer is a DG could have a 0.9 or a 1.8 from factory

in my case, I had a 1.8 fitted and it sounded when hot so rather than move to the 0.9 went for the black 1.4, a good compromise with a little extra warning as the engine wears

Not right though, a white switch is also 0.15-0.45 fitted to Aircooled engines.

Three possibilities:

part number 021 919 081 B is the air cooled one
pressure setting may be etched on the switch
Electrical, see if it's normally open or closed
