Linking leisure battery to power cab lights, stereo etc

Post by rollercoaster »

Recently got a leisure battery on a split charge, in my DOKA.
I read somewhere once how to feed a wire into somewhere in the fusebox..
so that using the stereo, or interior lights, cigarette lighter etc,
wont discharge the normal running battery.

Now I cant remember where I read it, can anyone help me with this info,
or maybe better advice would be fine too.
I hope to add a few other outputs in the future,
a gas heater for example, maybe another 12v/5v output in the rear seat area.
What is the best way to get power into my cabin circuits from the leisure battery?

Thanks

What I have done I installed an auxiliary busbar fusebox to the side of the original fusebox, this auxilary fusebox is solely powered by my leisure batteries.
The things I run from it are stereo, drinking water pump, Propex heater, lighting, all cigarette lighters (upgraded to 20A), even outside lighting such as spot lights, so can have them on if setting up in a dark field etc.

Yes... but what I read was something like one wire from leisure battery,
to one empty spade connection somewhere on the fuse box.
Sounded great and really easy!
Another small fused supply centre could be near the leisure battery which is under the back seat.
Remember its a double cab not a camper van.

That only works on a late fuse box,
You can do the equivalent on a early, but you need to change the fuse the brake lights work on, as on a early they too are on the interior light / radio fuse .

It can also be done on an early fuse box, choose fuse 7 or 8.

This can be referenced in the owners manual - page 69 of the 1980 one, or 58 of the 1983 one. I don't see a problem with brake lights being powered from the leisure battery, so long as the leisure battery is not taken out.
