Headlight issue

Post by stuwhitfeild »

Hi!

1.9 auto DG engine Caravelle 1987 problem...

When I switch on the headlights the blue full beam teller comes on but no headlights.

Rear lights and dash lights are working but there's only a very dim sidelight at the front end.

I've pulled, wiggles and replaced relays, stalk connections, fuses and switches but there seems to be something more troublesome going on.

Lights were working fine last week so I cant see any changes causing the issue > has anyone ever experienced this and could point me in the right direction?

Aye, but did you check your earths?

See the post at the top of the electrical threads page? Total wisdom, and there’s not much you can say that about. :ok

Not yet - I ran out of light and thought I'd seek out the wise advice on here.

- I've just realised you're taking about the crowns - it was all refreshed in the summer but I'll go over it again tomorrow.

Fingers crossed

Try your heater fan, if that does not work either, then possibly ignition switch faulty.

I'm guessing you have the wiring diagram?

This one is lighting only so possibly easier to read http://syncrosport.com/info/wiring/VW_T ... ghting.pdf

The blue light (current flow 25) indicates fuse 9 has power, so the main beam headlight should be working.......... provided the bulb is OK and the wires are in decent condition. The blue light should also go out when you click the lever, does it ?

Do you have access to a multimeter, you really should have one and you'll get one for less than a tenner ?

Thanks for the replies and the diagrams > I'm sure they will be useful in future.

For now, the problem is resolved, as predicted there was an earthing issue and deterioration of the cable about an inch away from the crown. Earths separated and new spades crimped on.

I've ordered the H4 relayed loom to install for the front headlights as well to take the load away from the original cables.

:ok
