t25 year differences- torpedo and spade fuses??

Post by j_robi »

10 years ago I had a few different T25's, all 1.9dg, 2 C Reg and 1 E reg, the older C reg had spade fuses and the other 2 torpedo fuses. Both vans with the torpedo fuses were more responsive (and more reliable...?). Was there any change or has anyone else noticed a difference?

Am now looking for another t25 and have been looking for a C+ reg, but not sure if this is relevant. Any opinions appreciated

The job of a fuse is to safely provide an open circuit under fault (excessive current) conditions while under normal conditions introducing no extra electrical resistance into the circuit. A well engineered fuse will provide that functionality regardless of type. I suspect a fad factor here  .

Pre model year 1986 1.9 carb gave more fuel at higher revs but were more polluting, when the new emissions regs came in (that VW were cheating the test on with the diesels) and they started testing real world driving rather than just testing at idle on mot they had to rejet the carbs so reducing top end performance for the sake of lower emissions, so they had to reduce the gearing as well as the later vans couldn't fuel enough to pull the 0.765 5th gear that some earlier 5 speed boxes had, that may account for the drivability variance you experienced
