Testing Ignition Amplifier

Post by jswagger »

Hi,

Is it possible using a multi meter to test an Ignition amplifier to see if it functioning correctly?

Thanks for your help.

This may be my memory playing tricks but I seem to recall you can short them out ( with the plug & socket) to see if they are causing a problem but not actually test them.

Not easily, you can use a multimeter set on dwell to check the variable dwell is working correctly and it might pick up any misfiring. Normally we use an oscilloscope to check how clean the switching is of the ignition system from the Hall sender through to the coil.
