Foglight rocker switch wiring?

Post by bernard1973 »

Hi All

The van has just been for it's MOT (Halfords!) and it only failed on the foglight. I checked the bulb and it's working ok, but when I've took the rocker switch out there seems to be a wire missing from the centre terminal? Should there be a wire to it? :?

No, that would be for front fog lamps if fitted.

If they are all working why did they fail it.was it the warning light in the switch not working?do they think there should be one in the dashboards?

On the switch you should see some markings. + is 12v feed from relay. 83a is to front fogs and 83b (the missing middle one) should power the rear fogs. I’m guessing a you have a stray wire behind the switch somewhere.
Hope this helps.
Bert.

Did they fail it because only the one offside rear light came on? ( Halfrauds wouldn't be bright enough to realize that that is all there is)

No, they know that only one works - but they're right, it's not working.
I've took the van to Halfords for the past 10 years and they've always been fantastic. Only ever failed it the once before for the headlight alignment (it's a LHD), but when I went to collect it they had fitted headlight adjusters and wouldn't take any payment. I wouldn't go anywhere else because they only ever charge me £27 (apart from this one which was actually free).

Cheers mate, I'll take a look tomorrow. As I say, the front foglights are working fine so the switch must be ok? But the little amberlight on the switch isn't working :?

Get yourself another switch.I had the telltale on the switch fail on mine.I changed the switch as i had a spare, and all was ok.i think the bulb is replaceable.

But the little amberlight on the switch isn't working

But if the front fogs are working does that not mean the switch is working (just the amber tell-tale on the switch is gone?).

So one of these would sort out the telltale, and the switch is working, so it must be the wire coming from the switch (the one that's missing). I'll have to have a look for it.

You could buy a fair few of these for the price of one of those LED ones.
