Leisure batteries pooped

Post by Jim San »

Seems the batteries are struggling to hold any decent ooomph.

Had a run to Wales and back so should have had plenty of charge. Used heater once small compressor fridge was running but in the early hours tried the heater again and got a F3.
Drove home, left it a day, fired it up and got an F3 again.
Voltmeter on dash is saying 11.2v

The batteries are just over 4 years i'd guess.

Seems odd more than one battery should go down at the same time.

Electrickery is a dark art to me Rob, I haven't really got much idea beyond the very basic. The van isn't left for extended periods of no use so i'm pretty sure the batteries would have never been totally flattened although journeys have been very short so probably not enough to fully charge them up again..
They worked fine all through the summer, powering the fridge with no problem through some very hot periods insouthern France.

All I can suggest is. Take them off the van.charge them for 24hrs check voltage. Let them stand for 24hrs check voltage again. If there is a significant difference they will need replacing.

Check the batteries are bing charged. Put a volt meter across the terminals with the engine running. Should read at least 13.5 volts if they are charging.
