Re: reversing lights
Check the bulb.
Pull 2 wires off the gearbox switch and short them out.
Makes it easy to check for voltage.

Re: reversing lights
The first three things to try are the reversing light bulb, the fuse to the reversing light circuit, and the reversing light switch.
The bulb is self explanatory, the fuse is a 10A rating in location S15 for a diesel van, and the reversing light switch is on left side of the gearbox - try bridging the contacts on this.
If none of these work then it's either down to poor earthing of the circuit or corroded wiring.

Re: reversing lights
Isn't the earth in the engine bay for the rear lighting, only the live feed through the switch?

Re: reversing lights
Oh ..thanks for that , bit late to go messing tonight , I'll start looking at the earths in or around the engine bay tomorrow ..
Re: reversing lights
Mine didn't work when I bought the van, bulbs were fine and it turned out to be an iffy switch. As a temporary measure removing the washer from gearbox switch and refitting was all it needed for it to make contact. To this day its still working and I'm yet to fit a replacement.
