Hi can anyone recommend a cheapish dc ammeter tried google and they seem to be ac only,unless you pay alot of money.i think a clamp type one would be useful up to 30a min I would say.just for diy fault finding use.

UNI-T UT203 is about the most cost effective clip on meter.

From past experience, clamp meters are not very accurate at low currents (less than an amp or so.)
they're fine for checking high battery charge current but not for low discharge currents/finding what's draining your battery etc.

From the test meters I have and have seen, the extra positive terminal is usually fused to 10A DC which should be enough for checking low current or parasitic loads, certainly agree above that larger currents require clamp meters or very expensive equipment.
30A is a lot though. If ive done my maths right a 200watt load on 12volts is 16.6 amps.
