Speedo repair/replacement

Post by T25 Newbie »

Hi all
i have just bought a van with a non working speedo. all other gauges work.
The previous owner says he doesn't think it is the cable as he's had it checked

Is there a repair service anywhere or do I need to look at breakers for one?

I am in no rush as it's not needed for an MOT but would like to sort it

its a 1988 petrol 1.9

I haven't got the van yet but will be getting it at the weekend

Jack up drivers wheel (or whichever one has the speedo cable showing through wheel cap), remove dash shroud, disconnect speedo cable from back (usually need to squeeze it to unclip) then spin wheel and see if speedo inner cable is actually moving at dash. If wheel cap is rounded (common) causing cable to not turn, its possible to prise cap off, hammer inside to close hole a little and file square again. Come back once you've checked all that.
