Fuel gauge voltage range

Post by T25Convert »

Next issue to fix is the fuel gauge - it just sits on the end stop of empty.

PCB is fine, connection is fine, and temp gauge works so not voltage stabiliser.

What is the expected range of voltage across the gauge I would expect to see?

I reckon its the sender as that's most awkward, but before I go dropping the tank, just want to check the gauge works off an external source, but don't want to blow it up!

Petrol dashboard if that makes any difference.

That would indicate 0v to me indicating either a broken wire or wires not connected to the gauge.

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question, but as the fuel gauges work off 12v with a rheostat resistor in the tank I would apply 12v and expect to see the needle to deflect to a full tank. Try 6v if you are nervous ?

The sender is a variable earth resistor. To check the gauge find the lilac/black wire from the gauge to the sender and earth it, the gauge should read full.

Cheers, will do this later and see where it leads me - probably to dropping the tank out, but for now I can cling to the hope of a failed gauge!

The voltage to the fuel sender is 10v or thereabouts.
