Apologies if this has already been asked and 'solved'; I haven't found it with a search !
I bought a 'No. 99 relay (part number 357 955 531) for variable intermittent wipe' as suggested in the Wiki, and with it fitted (existing metal pin and white plug removed) I get a wash wipe but moving the lever down only results in the same wipe as moving the lever up one 'notch' ?! Has anyone had this experience and 'solved' it to get the hoped for intermittent wipe ? Any other thoughts/suggestions appreciated; thanks in advance.

Did you push stalk down, then off. Count how many seconds you want. Then push stalk down again?

Re: Intermittent wiper relay working ish ?!
My understanding of the genuine 99 was that you moved the lever down and waited the amount of time you wanted the gap to be, 2-3 seconds and then lever back up to
off. This programmed the relay for that time gap and next time it would wipe with that 2-3 second delay....

Pretty sure Rob is right. I remember buying an old Sharan and being bemused by it’s totally random intermittent wipe for well over a year, in pre-internet-has-everything days. Worked out eventually that it might not be random, and if so, I could work out the logic. Still took a good while longer

Thanks all and sorry slow responding. I posted just pre the mayhem of packing for a break in The Lakes and just back this week; happily only needed the wash wipe to clear the screen of debris !
I tried this last night: turn on then immediately off; wait a count of 10; turn on and again immediately off. It worked When I then turned on, the delay and intermittent wipe worked... until I used the wash wipe, or turned the engine off and restarted, and the setting was lost/forgotten ! Is that your experience too ?

Yes. You have to re-set the 'delay' every time you use it.

Re: Intermittent wiper relay working ish ?!
default setting is something like 6 seconds it defaults to that when you switch the ignition off, when you use it you set the time gap to suit the weather, I love that I can have almost continual, ie about a second gap because continual is too fast much of the time in drizzle, why this system wasn't more widely used is a mystery, the variable interval rheostat type on the Subaru for example is not as clever and less adaptable
