Changing wash wipe lever - any tips?

Post by Winchweight »

Hi, I need to change my wash wipe as after a period of reduced service (only doing it in certain wipe positions), it has decided not to wash anymore. I have a replacement from BW, but before I start, any tips?

MOT due soon so I need to fix it ASAP.

centre the wheels before removing the steering wheel, mark the steering wheel relative to the column
disconnect battery +'ve before pulling the electrical connector off to be safe but iirc it is ignition live fed only
pretty easy job modular
make sure you remove the white plastic stop from the new arm if fitted so you get intermittent wipe

It's as straight forward as swap out and in. I did mine a while ago, best not forget to disconect the battery like I did ;O}

Just a thought.. the wash wipe/contacts are easily accessible once the switch is removed. You may be able to just give them a gentle clean-up to restore proper function, and avoid replacing the original VW switch with one of 'less pure' origin..
