Pics of back of stock rev counter petrol/diesel wanted

Post by CovKid »

As above. Anyone have a stock rev counter they could take pic of the back? Need photos for both petrol model and diesel but if you've got either it will help. Need to see the actual connector without membrane plugged into it.

I've just found a very useful thread on this very forum. This photo shows the pins on a diesel tacho:

..and this post explains that:
1=GND
2=+12V
3=Tacho connection on multiplug

I wonder if the petrol tacho wiring is the same.

Connections look VERY similar. I'll keep digging for the petrol one. Impossible to see them with clocks in place.

Hi all, hope this picture helps. This is off a petrol engine ("4-zyl 4 takt" - 4 cylinder 4 stroke).

And I've got a question about this too....

I fitted one of CJH's hard-wiring dash kits (Chris - fantastic piece of kit - a huge thanks!) and decided to fit a tacho to our bus, in place of the blanking plate/fuel/temp setup, having managed to find a tacho....

Only problem is, I've got four pins on the tacho, three wires (+ve, -ve, and pulsed) from the board and no idea which way round the wires go - as the tacho is completely new to the vehicle there was no original dash wiring for it, although the green wire was present in the main vehicle harness. I tried the diesel arrangement (mentioned in this thread) and the tacho needle stays put. Another forum suggests that older VDO tachos are wired +ve/unused/pulsed/-ve. Could that be the case here?

Can anyone help please?

I can't help with the pinouts I'm afraid, but do you know for sure that the green wire on your multiplug is connected to anything? It should go to the coil negative.

If you're careful, you can remove the backing plate from the tacho to try and trace where the pins go. The dial face is connected to the backing plate by a couple of small screws - take care with those as it's easy to slip and damage the slot in the screw, or worse, the dial face. The backing plate will grip those connector pins quite tightly, so after removing the screws you may need to push gently on those pins. If you can post a photo of each side of the PCB we can figure out which pin is which.
