No Battery Dash Light at Ignition On

Post by bmouthboyo »

Hi Guys,

Bit of an odd one here. I replaced my alternator about 11 months ago for a Hell Recon one from ebay. Seemed to work fine until today.

Basically despite replacing the regulator with a quality part the alternator is not giving any charge out. I even tried jumping a 12v live to the post for the blue wire and nothing. The blue wire is receiving about 11.7V when disconnected from the alternator, 9.7v showing when reading with it connected to alternator.

The dash light is not coming on for some reason either when I turn the ignition on. I tested this by connecting the blue wire at the alternator directly to earth and it then came on, but not whilst connected to alternator.

I checked earth straps etc and all fine, I even ran a wire from alt body to earth just encase and no change. Dash battery light doesnt come on with ignition and alternator not outputting charge.

Is it goosed? Any other checks I can do? :(

Is it under warranty? If so send it back.

I doubt it, will check. It was from an ebay seller :(

IF the alternator is not grounding the dash light when ignition on does that sound like something has broken with the exciter side of the alternator?
