Spannered Tacho?

Post by skysurfin09 »

Hi, I've just temporarily wired up a OEM tacho to make sure a{ that it worked and b} that I still had a green wire running back to the coil.
It was working beautifully and then I decided to neaten the wiring and put the binnacle back on. Big mistake on restarting the engine I've zilch, I've tried using positive and negatives straight from the battery no luck. I moved the connections around as I lost the picture in my mind and the only success I've had is in. a certain configuration I can stall the engine and she won't start again unless I remove the leads.
Is it possible to spanner said Tacho? Help please! Regards Rob

Not sure I understand the question, but you don't need the instruments to be in place for the engine to run.

First thing to check would be that you have 12v to the coil, did you disturb it when checking the green wire at the coil ?

Hi 937, I had the tacho working properly on temporary connections to prove that the tacho worked and that the green wire was still intact from the engine bay.
I then decided to neaten the cable runs to fit snugly under the binnacle. Some where in this process The tacho decided to stop working. Is it possible to overload stroke short out the rev counter by placing the wrong wire to the wrong pin? Rob
