Wheres me flasher circuit ???. no flash when main beam is of

Post by matt brighton »

Hi

Hoping for some advice..

Lights all function except it won't flash unless the main beam is on...

If the hi beam works when main beam is on then the relay is ok

and if the hi beam works then the switch on the indicator stalk is ok too -

So where do i find the wire that activates the flasher when main beam is off to check its live and ground point ????

Any suggestions to help me trace the problem ?

Thanks in adv...

The switch on the indicator stalk has two inputs - one from an 'always on' 12v wire (which allows you to temporarily flash the high beam) and one from an 'on with main-beam' 12v wire which allows you to switch high beam on/off when driving on dark country roads etc.
It sounds like your temporary flash circuit is not working - i'd be looking at cleaning up the contacts on the indicator stalk and maybe testing continuity of the indicator stalk if you have a multimeter;

Image

The flash side of the stalk switch is contacts 30 and 56a on the pic above - so you should have continuity across those when you pull the stalk and no continuity when it is not being pulled.
Also check that there is actually 12v on the connector that goes to contact 30 (there is no fuse in that bit of the circuit so its unlikely to be knackered but you never know)

(edited to correct fact that the flasher circuit is always powered - not just with ignition on)

All sorted now,

Turned out to be the 12v supply white wire to the fusebox spade connection had somehow got lose and shorted out ....reconnected ....... now all is AOK :ok

Thanks again for explaining the connections which helped me trace the fault
