Rev limiting rotor arm

Post by JeffRoo »

Hi all, has anyone used a rev limiting rotor arm? And what’s the feedback?
I’ve been thinking of fitting a 5400 rpm limiting rotor arm to my 1.9DG as I don’t have a rev counter. I don’t intend to go that high! But want to see what the general consensus is ‘good’ or ‘don’t even go there!’
Thanks

You're going to get conflicting answers

A: Have one fitted, it works fine and I'm happy it's there
B: Don't go there another thing to go wrong and they always fail

I'm in category A. Haven't had a rev limited arm fail on me but have had a standard rotor arm break in two on the dizzy.

Figure that one out :D

Had used the limiter one for 6 years trouble free. Replaced it with another that burnt out within a fortnight. I've now got a standard one on and another in the glovebox.

If you're unaware of how high you're revving then a rev limiter is a good idea. That said, they can cut your power when you really need it (ie hard overtaking). Personally I prefer a stock T1/T2 rotor arm as they're easy to swap out and available just about everywhere.

Why don't you fit a rev counter?

Was going to get one for my van after listening to the MOT tester on my other car revving it for the emissions test, went to GSF and the item they had was not suitable for my Distributor, the previous owner must have changed the distributor which had a larger spindle slot. GSF stocked both but be aware of size of spindle/slot if buying on line etc.

Only the MV engine had the smaller 10mm rotor arm shaft, all others use the 14.5mm shaft.
