horn push contacts

Post by tee3peeo »

My original steering wheel horn push contacts seem to be the worse for wear (arcing, intermittent horn sound). Is there a fix for this/replacement parts or is it a whole new push button? Has anyone sourced parts anywhere,

many thanks for help advice,

Had the same problem a couple of years ago. I can't remember exactly which bit it was, but I sanded part of a plastic housing away to bring the contact closer to the slip ring.

o.k. thanks tobydog - this isn't the slip ring though, this is actually inside the horn push on the steering wheel,

the brass strips may need to be rebent to make better contact, there is a short piece of internal wiring I think, which is obsolete asfaik
have you got a standard steering wheel or one of the Caravelle padded ones ?
I have a good used standard wheel here with decent horn connections internally and good slip ring

Hi Aidan,
many thanks for comments.
I will try the old brass strip bending first (I wondered if there was a more scientific solution).

The steering wheel is one of these.

The complete horn push for the later caravelle wheel is still available from classic, available in brown and black for about £20.

I had a similar problem on my ‘84 Caravelle. I cleaned the brass ring, als bent and sanded it. In the end though it was a poor earth at the horn. Take a look at the connections on the horn itself and make sure the connections are good, and the cable to spade connector is in good order.
