Non electronic coil

Post by jonathonck »

Hi. According to the breakdown guy the non electronic coil on my 1980 Aircooled has gone. I’m after a new one but finding it hard to source one.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to buy one or would it be better to convert to electronic but what is the cost of this? ( I’ve just bought an electronic coil by mistake off eBay so if I did convert I’d have the coil).
Cheers.

It would originally have been fitted with electronic ignition.
What ignition has been fitted?
Replacement points ignition distributors would just use a Bay/Beetle coil.

I believe it has points fitted, it was like this when I bought the van 6 years ago.
When I broke down the breakdown guy did some tests and suggested it was the coil.
I’m guessing this is the part that’ll do the job?

It might have had points fitted when you bought it, but all T25s came out of the factory with electronic ignition (as bigherb says above ;) )

If it was mine I would swap the dizzy for an electronic one and get the little ignition amplifier module and it's little wiring harness, you already have the coil, and away you go with the proper dizzy, which will give you better performance and MPG. You should be able to get the bits easily enough.
Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here
