Can I change my mind please, I wouldn't buy a Bosch at that price, I'd rather have a refurb of the existing one done.

As I say, I don't know the reliability of the RTX, a quick google does cast doubt on the quality though, which was my concern.

Ebay is an option, one here, but if you want it quick you might have to ask.

Have a read around, see what others think, only you can make the decision though :ok

My local alternator repair shop will readily repair bosch alternators
He tells me they are the easiest and have a massive spares catalogue.
I took a dead one into his shop and it cost £25 to put right (diode plate, bearing)
Fully tested and warrantied.

Quick question,

Went to ECP today to pick up my alternator. 1 hour train journey.

Does the pulley size make a difference?? One sticks out more than the other, My current Lucas one is like the one on the bottom, close to shell. Sorry if this is a silly question. Tried to pull a fast one, my Lucas 45 a with the Remy one. (which had a surcharge of £60) She wouldnt take it back because the Voltage Regulator wasnt on my old one

Wasted journey as they didnt have any other in stock

This looks like a safe bet?? ECP have annoyed me esp the person behind the counter. I phoned this morning and they told me I didnt need the voltage regualtor... Not amused

Right then...

To update this...

Caught the train to Cardiff today, got my new alternator £150, (there is a surcharge of £50 but... I had to swap the pulleys over) No worries I thought, I can drive there tomorrow :D

Got home, undid the old pulley easy enough, but couldnt get the other one off... Balls. Quick walk up the road and got the garage to do it, cost me a 4 pack.

So put the new alternator on... here we go. Started her up... Light still there..12.5v. FFS

So it wasnt the alternator after all, though I have a nice 65a one now. Things to make me feel better.

So looking around I found THIS!!!

Goes from the stater to the alternator

Cant believe it... and I dont have any ring connectors.

Quick question is it a 8mm ring connector I need??

ImageScreen Shot 2018-03-26 at 21.11.59 by Crazy Horse, on Flickr

do I need to heat shrink it?? One final question, whilst looking around down there (its bloody auckward to get to) the spade connector to the starter collapsed in my hand.

saw this

Do I need to buy a female spade?? or is it housed inside.

Sorry again for silly questions.

Train again for me for the next few days

Hi all,

sorry to continue this thread but...

Need to just confirm that all is well.

Van running I get around 14.2 or 3V (Have the 14.5v regulator)

Tonight coming home with lights on 13.7/8v with the blower on also 13.1V

Do these sound right??

Im also getting a very very faint battery light when I put my foot down, any suggestions or Im a being a bit over paranoid?

Sounds quite right to me. Still more than enough to charge the battery. :)

However, given the state of that corroded connector, and with warmer weather approaching, take the time to check ALL main supply cable connectors. If cables are frayed anywhere and look generally suspect, consider replacing and upgrading the size of these cables. Its all gain :)
