If your van is post 1986 then remove what looks like a relay with a 42 or 43 on the top and located in the fuse box under the glove compartment. Doing this will isolate the gauge from the coolant level circuit and the module 42/43 (which triggers the coolant LED into a flashing state when coolant is low). If the led continues to flash then it's not because of the coolant level circuit, wiring, components, etc. If the led behaves normally then the problem is with the coolant level circuit wiring or components. It is easier to identify which part of the coolant warning circuit is faulty first then report back.

Earlier vans also have this module but located somewhere else.

Poor connections at the coolant level sender, the dashboard edge connection, the temp gauge securing nuts (particularly the middle one) often cause problems but identifying which part of the coolant warning circuit is causing the led to flash continually would be my starting point.

Just to be clear - when you turn ignition on does it flash a few times then stop flashing; then when you actually start the engine it starts flashing again (or does it never stop flashing?)
Also if you have pre-86 van the relay AngeloEvs is talking about is ‘usually’ attached next to the ground ‘crowns’ (you’ll probably need to remove the fuses holder to see it)

Hi can't believe your name went to see a and last night called Mid life Crisis..
Any way my prob. Turn ignition on light flashes, turn engine over light goes of for about 8 secs then comes back on If l start engine about 3 or4 times it goes of and is ok. Start when the engine is warm no prob.
Thank you.

That does sound like the water level in the expansion tank is low (note that this is not the same as the water level in the header tank; (sorry if below is obvious but often gets confused)
1) Expansion tank - accessed by opening the engine bay lid
2) Header tank - accessed through the license plate hatch
Is the expansion tank definitely full to the brim when you remove the cap on the top?

Do what AngeloEvs says above but also worth trying pulling the coolant level sensor connector off the header tank and shorting the two pins on the wire connector together and see what the light does then (this will simulate a ‘good’ coolant level state)
