Central locking problem

Post by sonnyhowell »

Not sure if this should be posted in electrical or mechanical tbh but here goes.
I tried to lock my van last night and the drivers door wouldn’t turn to lock at all. Same with the passenger side. And the siding door would turn but just pop back

So I got back inside and closed the doors and locked cab doors manually with the lock pulls. Success this time.

So I exited the van and tried the keys again. This time both cab doors lock with keys (but no central locking actuators) but the slider door still pops straight back open on turn of key :-/

Any ideas??

The central locking actuators can be very troublesome, especially if they get any water in them. There's a small spring inside which tends to fail. I cleaned and repaired mine, but ended up replacing them all with the later T4 units. I've also experienced a similar problem to yourself, which was due to a broken wire in the door shut.
Good luck.

Mine started doing a similar thing last week.I purchased some T4 actuators and wiring adaptors. And the next day everything was working again, i suspect water had caused it to happen.Still, i have two spare actuators.

Yeah I’m thinking possible broken wire because I just got the first screw off the window winder to get door card off to have a look and.......’mmmmm pop’

It’s bloody working again.....

Closed the door to check and it’s as if it never happened.

When I get more time I’ll have a dig around the wires and fix properly. Thanks for your input

I have a few pics of the accuators in various states of dismantelment.

and the wireing loom.

The two cab doors are master controllers, operating either one sends control signals to itsself and the other cab door, sliding door and boot lock.
The sliding arm has a contact that provides the control signal, while the rotating contacts tell the motor when to stop moving.
As has been said, water can rust the tiny springs so that the sliding contact doesnt give the required signal.
I replaced the springs in my accuators with spings from a propelling pencil... and used a plastic bag to keep the thing dry.

Apologies if I’m hijacking this post but I’ve a similar issue. D/S central locking not working but P/S and sliding door both worked. Replaced the D/S with a T4 unit and now central locking doesn’t work on any lock. They go to lock and then unlock again. Any ideas? I’m wondering based on comments if there is a dodgy wire on D/S?

Cheers

Did you use a conversion loom with the T4 actuators?

Yep. Got both the actuator and loom from Brickwerks.

It could well be a dodgy actuator.
