Only had my van over 10 years and I cant remember

Post by zenecho »

Ok, may be a stupid moment - well I am getting over the flu I had at the new year.

My indicators dont switch off after I go round corners. I'm pretty sure they used to, but Im not sure?

I am being stupid?

No you're not being stupid.
My Pritsche has the same problem - I think it is down to wear and tear on the self-cancelling system.

I don't know if our vans use the same sort of thing but on my Merc bus the self cancel wasn't working - upon inspection it was wear on a nylon part that was the problem. From what I remember a lever is pushed by a sharp indentation on a nylon cam, in this case the sharpness had been lost due to wear, solution was a quick reprofile with a soldering iron so that the lever caught on the cam correctly again. Our vans may be completely different but may give an idea as to what sort of thing to look for. Or wait until someone has direct knowledge and can help.

there is a protrusion on the underside of the steering wheel that catches the switch, and cancels
if you have original steering wheel, it can only be that has worn, or the steering column has ridden up through the bearing making the gap too large( had that on one once with a golf wheel on )

on my switch the spring that throwing back the lever fell off with time. That M (or W) shaped one opposite to the stalk:

You could always join the ranks of those who don't know what an indicator is.

Or one that doesn't know how to cancel a right indication coming left off a roundabout.
