Temp Gauge??? Whats going on?

Post by crazyhorse »

Hi gang,

Quick queation.

Reading through the wiki and other posts Im a bit lost.

Last few days temp gauge has been reading low, then tonight on my half hour drive home it never got off the bottom.

This is the pic when I parked up (engine running) after the half hour drive. Its cold outside but still.

Blower is blowing warm air. Could it be the thermostat?? Any ideas?? Thanks

Fuel gauge reading empty points towards 10v voltage regulator inoperative - first thing I'd check, also wiring to regulator.

Someone will be along to help you soon but just to add my bit- i changed the rad sender on our van in August because the first stage on the two stage fan wasn't coming on. The needle wasn't acting like yours though.

Switch on the radiator - not a sender/sensor.

I had a similar problem in my van for a while. Ended up being the temp sender or temp sensor (can't remember which one there are two that come out of the thermostat, it's one of them). Turns out a mechanic put the wrong sensor in and it has a different resistance range. You can test if the sensor is shot but placing different resistors across the plug. If you search 'temp sender' in the forum you should be able to find the resistor values that correspond to the different levels of the gauge

mmm,

bit stumped. Pulled leads at temp sensor. Hope I pulled the right ones. At the back of the thermostat. Quite auckward to get to

2 leads one earth and one yellow and red

Put a multimeter on leads

Got a 11 v reading with ignition on.

Try bridgeing the spades with a paperclip, ignition on, nothing. Shouldnt temp gauge go to hot?

Process of elimination does that mean a dodgy temp gauge??

Ladies and gents...

My appologies for my own foolishness.

Just taken instrumment cowl off. Small nuts on the back of the coolant gauge were loose. Just taken for a 5 min drive, needle just under halfway. All good.

Thanks all

Now to replace speedo cable which has suddenly stopped working. Always something to do :)
