Hi, replacing battery and revealed this when I took driver's seat swivel off.Obviously is a relay but what for and how to check it's working? Only thing I can think of is 12v fridge ? Any ideas

Looks like a fridge relay. We have one behind the drivers seat on the Devon, one fuse does the fridge and one does the water pump.

Split charge relay of some kind plus fuses for leisure circuits I would guess.

Pull off the spade connector on number 87 relay terminal, use a bulb or voltmeter between the now empty terminal 87 on the relay and a clean earth point. The voltmeter should read zero (bulb not illuminating) until the engine has started when the voltmeter should read battery voltage or bulb now on.
