Battery issue

Post by sandancer »

Not sure if I have a battery, relay or wiring issue
We went down to Sheffield and everything seemed to run ok, coming home on Sunday had to be jumped at the field before we could set of home, then 2 mile down the road when we stopped for fuel we had to get jumped again.as we left the fuel station the fuel gauge and temp gauge was not working, we were not able to run the Sat nav and plug in devices, we did 120 miles back home and checked the battery and it was reading 9.5v. Put the battery on charge and it has held 12·5v all week
I have changed the battery and the relay to the leisure battery but have not been anywhere to test it
Any ideas what the issue could be, as I don't want the same thing happening at Leeds this weekend

A previous T25 I owned had exactly the same problem. I found the leisure battery charge relay had been incorrectly installed so that if it failed the leisure battery was charged but not the starter battery. In my case, a coil connection had fallen off. Re-wired it as it should have been in the first place.

Thanks, I will have a look tomorrow, and make sure all connections are correct.

VW in their infinite wisdom wired the alternator to run through the starter solenoid.
I'd check that the cable from alt to starter is in good order

The 2 cables from the alternator go to the battery, and they are new cables
