Electrical issue with water pump

Hello,
My water pump stopped working, or to be more precise it became increasingly temperamental and then eventually it wouldn't work at all. My multi-meter showed that the wires were providing 12volts so I thought broken pump and bought a new one. However the new pump doesn't work either when I connect it. The pump is not broken thought because when I connect it to a 9v household battery it fires up. I don't understand why the multi-meter is saying there is plenty of power coming through but the pump isn't working, any ideas?

What type of connector is used to connect the pump to the 12v supply and earth and was the measurement taken at this connector?

Strange indeed but there is an explanation, just have to find it.

Seeing 12v at an appliance doesn't necessarily mean that there is sufficient current being able to pass. Poor connections due to corrosion is the favourite cause. Usually it is the earth path due to the connection usually being bare and exposed to the corroding factor.
