washer pump not working - where to test first

My washer pump isn't working, when I pull the stalk nothing happens. My wipers work fine, as does the blower fan so it's not as simple as a fuse sadly.

I don't think I have the wash/wipe relay fitted (nothing on the relay board) and the green/red wire from the steering column goes to straight to the pump as far as I can tell (there is a single plug connector beside the fusebox: green/red in and out). I want to try jumping the terminals on the connector at the steering wheel to see if it is stalk related, but am not sure where the pump gets its 12v feed from. There's a few different wires running next to the green/red in the steering wheel multiconnector, does one of these carry the switched live?

Pull the connector on the pump (2 spade clips). Put your multimeter on the live feed and ground the other. Rest the display on the windscreen so you can see it from the drivers seat. Turn on ignition, press stalk. If you have 12V, then pump is shot. Or, Pull pump and put 12v across it, if it sounds, then pump ok and it's an earthing fault.

Thanks for raising this! I've got the same problem that I'm gonna tackle as soon as I've got my engine back in and the van running again

I had a similar problem a few years ago, turned out to be fluff/crap on the metal connector at the base of the washer lever. Cleaned it with emery paper and a cotton wool bud-all sorted.

You don't need an engine to fix a screen washer pump!

My washer pump is occasionally not working,
I hate that, tempted to wait until its totally defunct,
otherwise its all guesswork,
currently best guess is the fluff in the stalk switch!
On the plus side I have worked out the squeak,
that turning the steering wheel caused!
