Mileometer promlem

Post by Ernest »

Hi all

I am seeking advice...on a drive yesterday returning from a few days in Devon the milometer (odometer?) and the trip-meter on my van packed up. The speedometer itself works fine.
Does anyone have any idea of what the problem might be and how to cure it?
A look at the back of the speedo and all I can see is a connection for the cable itself and a connection for the dial light.
Any advice would be much appreciated - even if it's just directing me to a reliable VW garage/mechanic somewhere near south London would be useful.

Thanks

Ernest

usually the plastic lug that holds the shaft the trip digits rotate on is broken, so the cog connecting to the odo is not engaging and driving the trip, small lugs, plastic fatigue, the reset action causes load and eventually they break, can usually be put back togetehr with some 2 pack resin type material and some tlc, it's airfix model technology you don't need a garage just some time and patience
