Saw some of the angel eyes on a Landy last week. Looked neat.

They're way brighter than Hella units too. I can't even describe the difference.

Read a few posts on facebook where people were looking for replacement glass for Hella units. Having gone down that road in the past, I wouldn't even bother now. They're just not as good as modern units which are half the price. No brainer really.

Dredging this old but very useful thread back :-) I've got the angel eye units now, and have just held them up for fitment. I can see how the 3 plastic lugs sit nicely into recesses in the headlight bowls, so that takes care of the placement And should keep alignment the same.

But fixing them looks like I do need bezels really (to drill and cable tie as in this thread). The bezels all seem approx £12 each whisch is a shame! Is there any recent info on best method here? Any cheaper suppliers of bezels or fixings?

I know this may seem like a silly Q but what do you do about side lights on say a set like this

https://www.powerfuluk.com/vehicles/lan ... l-rhd.html

I only have single round headlights

what would I need to be able to use/have working side lights, would I need these? Would prefer crystal style with sidelight I think, as close to standard as poss :)

I personally do not like the angel eye light ring, it looks too boy racerish for our age of 'dub.

I've got the angel eye ones. They're ok. The main and full beam areca big improvement over stock without a doubt. The lenses are plastic though. The angel eye sides are quite dim... Not what I was expecting, but not terrible either. I've had one fail though (side led) after less than 6 months, though they did replace it very quickly. Since then another one has failed (theres 4 LEDs to make up the halo) which I've not addressed. It's a cheap upgrade and the beams are a lot better, but I guess they have their issues. Don't throw your old ones out ;-)

Wychall agree not a fan either as they look a little modern for me

slowcoach good to know thanks, will look at crystals with a sidelight I think. What would be the best sidelight option lamps from the list below?

My reason for new lights is because yesterday we were putting the engine back in my van and I took the grill off and the glass just fell out of the Hella unit, glue/seal and just failed, they were genuine Hellas but the quality does not seem to be great any more. Ill pop up a few pics, the silver reflector has started peeling off too and on the other light it started to yellow. These went in new in December 2015 and the van was nor driven properly really until last year so I wont be wasting any more cash on Hellas.

Some photos of fitment would be good. I never figured out how I could use them although my camper may be different from others :)

When I removed the headlight grill to bleed the rad one glass lens from the Hella headlight just fell out and smashed  and speaking to other owners many have had the same problem. So I'm less than impressed with the current quality of Hella. They went on the van in January 2016 and have only been exposed to the elements for about 18 months as the van was in the workshop from 12/2016 to 09/2017 so it was time for something else. I have been looking around at what is available. There are some nice LED units but I wanted to keep the van as stock looking as possible but improve the light output without spending a fortune.

Covkid has an excellent article on the wiki here and there is a few good threads on the forum too. I particularly like Wychall's method which is a more permanent fitting for lucas lights, which uses the lucas adjusters. A big thanks to Wychall for answering my many questions and pointing me in the right direction too

So I bought the mounting kit and the headlights from PowerfulUK via ebay as there was a 15% discount available over Christmas  I went for the SVX Style Headlights (with Sidelight), a photo next to the original Hella unit.

The mounting kit comes with the retainer ring and a rubber gasket
Image

As with the bowls in Wychall's post the mounting rings needed to be trimmed at the back to sit flush

The sidelights do not come with any connectors, I fitted 2-way (t config) connectors to the sidelights and to the original wiring, the units came with a decent pair of Osram LED sidelight bulbs

Not too far removed from stock

This was the old Hellas

New units brighter and more defined.

I went out for a drive this evening and the lights are definitely brighter, its a whiter light (without been too much) and sharper than the old Hellas. With the Lucas kit now fitted its very easy to swap to another round light in the future 8)
