Good picture/diagram :) Where did you find that, or did you do it ?
Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here

It's one of mine I did for another thread on flashy led problems.
Was hoping someone (i.e. you or others) might confirm that it looks correct??

MidLifeCrisis wrote:OK - So the story so far is ... (let us know if any of the below assumptions are incorrect)
1) The led flashes all the time that the ignition is switched on
2) The needle of the gauge does work correctly (i.e. it moves slowly up to the approx 12o'clock position when the engine has been running for a few minutes)
3) You had the same symptoms when you changed out the dash pod for a known good one from another van.
4) You've removed the 43 relay and have the same symptoms.

Use the below picture as a reference;
Image

So,
a) if the led flashes with the relay removed then you can discount the coolant level probe and wiring to/from it as a culprit (because with the relay removed all of this is unconnected to the gauge)
b) if the led flashes on the 'known good' dash then you can discount any component of the dash/gauge as the culprit (because the two gauge behave the same)
c) the gauge needle works correctly so we can discount the temperature probe and the wiring from the temperature probe to the dash (because the gauge needle is being 'driven' correctly by the temperature probe as it is heated by the coolant)

(I think) that only leaves the ground wiring to the gauge pod??? Or possibly (but more unlikely) the 10volt supply to the gauge.

So;
1) Have you checked that the ground wire(s) to the gauge pod (in the long white connector that connects to the back of the dash) has a good ground connection?
2) And have you measured the 10volt supply to the gauge to ensure that it is a good solid 10volts??
All correct. I'll try points 1 and 2 as so as poss and get back

Thanks for the help so far

jrt wrote:^^^^^^^^^ sounds like good advice. Just had a search on t'internet, someone with a similar problem resolved it by cleaning the connections behind the guage tightening the brass retaining nuts then running an earth to the van body from the negative terminal.
David
I shall try this also

Thank you too

I'm having a similar problem.

Where is the 10v output?

My gauge only reads cold - (that's to the left of the solid white line, not FSD to the left)

pfield69 wrote:My checks so far.

Voltage reg = 9.9v
continuity checked ok from red/yellow cable #6 to gauge terminal nut
continuity checked 300kohms to earth from #5 of relay34 or 0ohms when coolant level plug jumped with wire.
Good earth on pin#3

What resistance should be on the temp sender?
Relay 43 removed still makes light flash.

Hi pfield69 - could you start a new thread for your problem (I know that there are quite a few flashy led threads but otherwise it all gets a bit confusing as to which problem we are actually talking about) :ok
Then can you explain 'exactly' what your problem is and when/how it occurs?

I second the earth crown under the dash being the cause. I cleaned and recrimped all mine due to another issue. Upon finishing I got the flashing coolant light. Turned out one of my crimps wasn't up to snuff.

Well on the long trip to southwold and after 3 years of ownership my little red light has stopped flashing and now seems to be working as it was intended. It flashes for a few seconds when turned on then out it goes.
The strange thing is it seems to have fixed its self :rofl I'm now just waiting for something to go wrong :run

Hi guys

Mine flashes constantly too

New switch, new temp sensor, new earth to body from gauge center pin etc etc

I have a 1985 caravelle with old style fusebox so no relay 43

Is mine the same with relay hidden elsewhere ?

Regards
Rick

With old style fuses its usually above the two earth crowns behind the fuse holder.
Unscrew the fuse holder and you should be able to see it up there;
Pull the relay out and see what that does to the flashing light?
