Seeing as somebody else woke this post up I thought I’d chip in with a question.

Did the T3 Petrol model ever come with a factory fitted rev counter that didn’t connect using the PCB plug into the 4-pin socket?

Reviving time again!

Well I have just installed a tachometer from
a Mark 2 Golf, into my T25. I have four pins on the back of it. I assume I just use the three similar to those on the t25 one?

It’s in, but not doing anything. It moves up about 1cm when I put the power on.

Secondly, where should my W connected wire (green from under the dash) go to in the engine bay? I assume it should connect to the alternator?

Any photos also appreciated :-)

I seen this post on facebook if its the same one, if yours is a petrol it wont connect to the w connector on the alternator as that's for a diesel like mine, yours will need to connect to the Coil on a petrol and i believe its on the neg side of the coil, others will chip in if i am wrong and happy to be corrected as i am a diesel man not petrol.  The pins on the back of the taco and there should only be 3 not 4 are from the left looking at it

1= Neg
2= Pos 12 volts, this does not need to go through the voltage regulator so any 12v permanent
3= Signal wire (Diesel W connector on Alternator, Petrol Neg pickup on HT Coil)

Also take a look at this post on this very forum

viewtopic.php?p=8209938

you also need to trace the green wire and see where it terminates, mine terminated in my rear junction box and then changed colour to black/red to the alternator this will probably be different on a petrol.

On petrol engines the wire does indeed go to the coil, but I'd have to check where, maybe the wiki will have it on.

Cheers fella, I’m diesel so didn’t want to confirm to him something that might be wrong. 👀
