Noticed the other day that Asda were selling small roller kits for £99 down from £1.49. They came with a normal roller and high density foam roller

Make sure it IS a high density one. A normal foam roller won't do it. The high density ones are usually white - see photos on page 5 of this thread.

One end is rounded too - that REALLY helps.

Oh, and 'VWLewis' - thats not the glossy full paint chart I've seen. Thats the one I already put in the WIKI. If anyone can get the full one - please scan it in. I have seen it - awesome.

I *think* it says high density but for 99p they are cheap enough to buy and then get the seperate roller heads from somewhere else.

Rollers are £2.98 for a pack of 2 from B&Q Warehouse - well worth paying for them - take my advice I didn't at first!

The asda ones are identical to the ones at B&Q for £1.96!!

I get my rollers from here - Screwfix have quite a few trade counters round the country now - trawl the site to find out the nearest - At £3.99 for 10 you won't find cheaper

Hey, haven't you guys read my article in the WIKI. You can get these roller handle/tray kits in a lot of pound shops for....well a pound. Hardly worth paying another pound just to get ONE roller head. I bought a stack of trays like this (eight I think) and just threw each away as I used them - lot cheaper doing that and nothing to clean up. I just bought a pack of roller heads to go with them



By the way, they do start to break up after 45 mins to 1hr solid use - even faster if you catch one on something sharp. Don't skimp - get another handle with a fresh head (don't bother messing with a wet one trying to pull it off) and away you go again.

Having almost mastered the roller technique, there is NO way I'd ever EVER spray a bus again - this is way easier and you don't need a spraybooth! Finish is wholly down to watching behind you for runs and dealing with them fast, not overworking an area and getting the thinners just right. 20 mins at it and you can get a really excellent finish. Flatted and polished it can look as good as any spray job - better if you want to put the time in.

Four layers of paint then flatted with pound shop wet&dry, and finally, polished out with pound shop brass cleaner!

That's an amazing finish and no doubt some amazing elbow grease you've got there

as you said getting mix is critical, how did you do it? is it worth getting a new clean tin and mixing whole amount with correct thinners [how did you measure 30% to get it spot on?] Top job by the way

Bit of a daft question - if you change the colour of your van, do you need to get the V5c updated by the DVLA and if so how much does it cost?
