vactan on the tinware

Post by VWlewis »

Vactan is impressive - I just coated the steel (rusty) strengthener on my new washer grille (no wonder it is corroded, it sits under the headlight washer spray! )

BUT I suggest you also cover Vactan with Rustoleum or similar to make sure it lasts even longer. :D

Vactan is awsome stuff, my wife and I completed our first coat of rollering in last two days. Its two tone so it makes it abit more difficult but worth it. I will post some pics soon. Spent two weeks doing the prep, there was little rust but were there was it was vactaned big time, again and again. This paint is awsome though. :D :D :D :D

Taking the plunge

Post by dublemel »

Thanks Covkid. Have been following your postings about roller painting your van for ages and even though I'm a fairly competent DIY'er I was hesitant to say the least to give it a go. I needen't have worried . You are dead right. It works a treat. Got the paint from Lawsons ,arrived in 36 hours. (Screwfix do 10 rollers for under a fiver.) My camper is a homebrew converted paqnel van so the body isn't perfect but with 3 coats of white on the roof and just one of blue (same colour as yours ) so far it looks brilliant! Got a few runs in the blue that appeared after I'd stopped checking but I'm now waiting till next year to flat back and finish the blue.I'm certainly not ashamed to be seen in the van with only the one coat as the coverage it's great. Got loads of paint left. (2.5 ltrs of each). Thanks for your persistence in pushing the technique. I'm sure it's helped loads of people

VIDEO DEMONSTRATION:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZL-F9Zf02Q

We shot this in August. This is 80/90's 'ChickenKoop' rollering his camper (with suitable encouragement and commentary from yours truly.

A high quality copy of this has been set aside exclusively for the 80/90 admin team who said they would like it if we ever got around to doing a video.

I can add a couple to the relevant WIKI section if they're posted on here. Glenn77's camper is in there now and I've also tidied up a few paragraphs as well as adding in a few extra tips. I suspect its not just T25 owners absorbing this thread.....

This is now officially the most read thread on 80/90
