Caravelle rear seat fixings
Can anybody comfirm please what points the seat is fixed and what the fixings are.
It looks like the holes arrowed to me for the seat back bracket and the lower seat main fixing, but what does the lower seat pin at the back fix into?
I imaging there is a special bolt as the spacing looks like it aligns with the lower hole on the seat back bracket.
Also when fitting gas tanks under the seat the lower seat supports must be cut off so I assume it's strong enough without them?
any help welcome.
thanks

Re: Caravelle rear seat fixings
For the backrest pivoting fixing the bolts are M8 x 18 and 7/16 x 25. The seat base fixing is 7/16 x 25 with a large washer. The caravelle seat base isn't reinforced like the multivan seat is so may need support, a front kick board would help with that if the legs are to be cut off. The pivot bracket goes under the little pin on the seat base to locate.

I guess 7/16 x 25 is seatbelt fixing size, I don't have the plates with threads so I will make something

Ahhhh so the pin just sits on the bracket then, nothing more complicated that that.
thanks very much

Re: Caravelle rear seat fixings
Any bright ideas on how to get a threaded fixing into this hole?
no way I can see to get a threaded plate inside without cutting a hole as it's a pillar?
I wonder what's fitted to a caravelle in these points, perhaps factory fitted rivnut before the body is assembled.
it's 17mm in diameter.

not 17mm diameter, that would be a massive thread, but I did just answer my own question, threaded plate 17mm wide and say 25mm long should go in

Almost there,
Do I need seat belts? 1988 van.
I mean legally or for MOT?
I have no plans to use them while driving or carry passengers, it's a day van.

Re: Caravelle rear seat fixings
Took it all out and refitted the panels today
plate with threaded inserts, these press in with a vice and so much easier to fit than riv nuts , 3M VHB holds it in place
this is a view from inside the c pillar looking at the end of the bolts holding the plate in place while VHB tape cures.
Had to raise the front of the seat 2 inches to clear the LPG tank, made a bracket, really could not be arsed moving the tank, inclined the back a little to match, it's more sofa position now
Had to make some plates to support the back of the seat, I could not work out how it was supposed to be , could not see any holes for the pins that must be fitted normally, the hole I used looked like a panel clip hole
cut one support to clear the propex, they don't reach the panel van floor anyway, caravelle must have had a raised floor, I noticed how much it makes the base rigid so I will put a strap on the two parts to fix them together.
tank makes a great foot rest , it's the most comfy seat
kick board tomorrow.

Re: Caravelle rear seat fixings
Having a read seems seatbelts in the rear are not compulsary for pre 89 but it may not be technically legal to sit in them while driving.

kick boaord, clips on with tool clips like the diagram on etka
Propex vent next and maybe router the edges to make the rounded.
