Re: Panel beating
Thanks I'm sure the radius is not perfect but I will have to pull the screen out before I can measure it properly.

probably, I'm not an expert
thought I'd need hardwood but it bent really easy so softwood would have done.

Re: Panel beating
Anybody know if there is any cables or pipes or plastic under that windscreen corner that need removing before welding?

Re: Panel beating
Depending on whether it’s LHD or RHD the interior light cable runs up the A pillar

Re: Panel beating
Although mahogany is a hardwood it isn't a hard wood! Balsa wood is a hardwood but isn't a hard wood as everyone knows.itchyfeet wrote:Oldiebut goodie wrote:Mahogany!

thanks need to do both sides so I guess it's on one of them.
Re: Panel beating
Birch ply would be suitable for that sort of thing and there are lots of types of mahogany, some are very hard.

Re: Panel beating
A job to do on mine soon, been putting it off. Interested to see how this method works out as I bought the screen repair panel/strip that seats the rubber because i figured it would be rusted through and was going to make up the flat visible section to infill

Re: Panel beating
I even asked Alan Schofield if they could make this part from the A pillar tooling and they told me they don't own the tooling they buy the panel in.
I'd have thought there was a market for it but it needs a company to negotiate not an individual.

Re: Panel beating
I was surprised it wasn't available as it seems a common problem but maybe it's not that sought after as it's a biggish job for what seems a small rust issue, possibly gets 'bodged' to avoid the screen out etc. I am guilty of a bodge (rust converter and filler) but water ingress means it has to be done

Re: Panel beating
yep been avoiding taking my pop top windscreen out for 2 years.
Re: Panel beating
Its J P Group that tooled up to make the outer a post panel, would be good if they could just do the corner section ,the complete panel is expensive. Im sure it would be a popular repair piece and would help pay back for the tooling cost of the bigger panel.
