Adjusting the sliding door

Post by Michael4 »

Can't seem to find any reference to this either here or in Haynes but how do you adjust the back of the sliding door?

On our van the front of the door is at the right height but the back is too low and needs shifting up somehow to align correctly. Locks and catches work properly, I reckon it is the later ('85) door.

Loosening the two visible bolts that hold the hinge onto the door itself didn't achieve anything, I had hoped they might have elongated holes.

I assume I am missing something obvious...any suggestions?

Can you adjust the striker plate for the door latch up. That should lift the door as it clos3s and the lock engages

Hi,not sure if you have sorted this but there is a third bolt behind the sliding door trim panel. However it is probably best to check the rear hinge/roller assembly first as the roller may be worn and this will cause the door to 'drop'. The rollers are available from the usual suppliers.

Hope this helps

Thanks, yes I reckon replacing the roller will go a long way to sorting this out, I've taken up all adjustment elsewhere (three bolts and striker)

I found a lot of wear in the two pivots at either end of the 'U' bar. I think I added washers at the top of the roller side of the 'U' bar and the bottom of the door side to maximise lift. I don't think that new bushes are available.
