Under body paint/protection

Post by Katheleenthevan »

Hi all,

I'm sure it's been covered already but I'm looking to see what's the best way to treat underneath the van. I want to clean it all back and repaint then seal. But I'm not sure what's the best product for the job. Was looking at just using hamerite for all the main bits...trailing arms wishbones and under the body generally. Is this good enough or is there better out there? I will likely either Shultz or WaxOyl it after but I'd like to paint it first.

Be better using chassis black paint ,hard wearing and made for the job, hammerite will chip when hit with stones gravel etc .

Dynax UB is the product I would use.

It's not paint but a tar like protection but it does brush on really nice also no need to paint first unless you really want to.

I don't like it at all. Too wet and sticky, never dries. Gets everywhere (on your hands, clothes, floor). Horrible.
I use Dinitrol, ML in the cavities, and 4941 sprayed on warm on the underside. It's great stuff, dries semi soft but not sticky and leaves a nice finish. Cleans off hands etc easily with white spirit or brake cleaner.

As above, Dinitrol, Bilt Hamber etc. all offer better more modern solutions, please don't use that horrible old stuff in the tin, it's a dinosaur from the old days of car maintenance and mainly used to hide things, there's much better out there now. I cleaned down all the underside of mine and sprayed it with black stonechip paint, seems to be holding up nicely. I used Dinitrol's products for protecting cavities (Dinitrol 3125 I think I used with the long hose attachment).
