High top paint code

Post by 100leelee »

Hi,
So the van is all set for paint.. now for the leisuredrive high top. Couple of gel coat cracks which am hoping can fill with the proper filler already bought... going to roller it. Anyone know the correct shade of white paint code that it would have had? Van is to be the original mid blue.
Thanks

It wouldn't have had paint originally, commonly available white gel coat RAL codes here.https://www.ecfibreglasssupplies.co.uk/ ... ?pagenum=2

Thanks
The one I have isn’t painted, might try to polish/cut it first, although it will need some small repairs.. so will need to do something there!!
Have you used the gel coat before?
Is it relatively straightforward to apply?
Cheers

The gel coat is used by coating the mould before the fibreglass layup, it isn't used as a paint. That was just a guide as to which RAL codes are used in gel coats.

Ok
Looks like the roof has been painted previously as the leisuredrive letters are covered..
So was more a question of if I have to paint it, what’s the best paint and method and shade of white?

Cheers

Am going to paint the high top..
Does anyone know the best paint to use?
Rustoleum vs marine enamel??

I know it’s originally gel coat only, but P.O. have filled it etc, it needs small repairs so will need smartening up..

Thanks

Also shade of white??

Perfection 709 is what I used on the last fibreglass boat that I painted, it is extremely hard wearing. Difficult to avoid brush marks using a brush alone though, roller on with a brush in the other hand to lay off. Have to work quickly as it is a 2 pack polyurethane so plan your attack/access well to avoid problems with corners. The hotter it is - +20 ° the quicker it cures, ideally need 15 - 20°.
Boat was still glossy after 15 years when I sold it.
