Wing mirrors give up over 60mph

Post by bkandj »

Our wing mirrors ‘fold in’ once we get up to about 60 mph. I’ve tightened them up but it’s still happening.

Do I just need to buy a new pair or is there a knack to tightening them?

They’re the black plastic ones btw.

Cheers! :ok

It’s by design.... so you know you’re doing 60 when your speedo inevitably fails. :rollin

New ones will be no better, you can tighten them and if you don't need to adjust you can add something like sand to give extra grip

Lots of people have changed to land rover mirrors on brackets made by Rowlsey

Take off, take apart and pop a rubber washer on the ball joint and reassemble. It worked for mine and others. Every 6 months or so I change the washer as it gets chewed up in there eventually

My sand and grease on the ball method works and never needs changing! A lot of people have used it since I devised it.

Is that a reinvention of rust for a T25. That'll work too :rofl

I wonder how many have independently devised a similar solution. Mine was prittstick and grit off the floor, used it many times :-)
Coarse valve grinding paste works too, if you're posher than me.

Tried the sand trick but as I have to move mine in every time I park up in my drive it didn't last long.

I added an extra nut to mine and they've not moved in many years by wind alone. GSF too. I can still adjust them if needed. Much depends on the source of the wing mirror though. I have a cool set of West Coast mirrors I've yet to have the guts to fit.

I used this for ours last year and can still adjust the mirrors a little. Will be interesting to see if it still works on our longer trip down to Pembrokeshire next week....have packed some grease just in case
